Waitlist Master: 求定位和帮助

感谢大家的帮助，我的partner终于搞完了R2，结果成了waitlist master:

1. HBS, dinged without interview

2. Columbia, dinged without interview

3. Wharton, waitlist

4. MIT, waitlist

5. Yale, waitlist---weird, I got DINGED without interview

6. Cornell Johnson, waitlist

7. Kelley Indiana U, waitlist

我到现在也没明白他怎么会全部候补上了，好吧，我也只能陪他申请一次了。WD from NYU, for I truly want to go to MIT. 我觉得他的app应该比我强，我被这7个的2-5都拒了。不知道为什么面完了最后全部候补上了。

我能想到的几点：1，年级太大，他1982年出生，但是读书时间早，所以工作时间是13年；

2，职业目标设计不好：加入一个博物馆做项目发展部负责人；Kelley AO直接告诉他，他只能靠自己找工作，面试完就waitlist; Cornell Johnson都不明白他毕业要做什么；

3，没有任何商业背景；

4，没参加任何学校的interactions, 什么info session, campus visits全部＝0

最后我简单重复一下他的背景啊：

1.  公务员，做文化的；工作13年，在北京文化部，纽约和渥太华的中国大使馆工作过，也是做文化。办过很大的活动： China: through the Looking Glass/ Fendi Show on the Great Wall，不过对商学院可能不太有用，Cornell Johnson AO都没听说过这个活动。

2. Test Score: GMAT: 790, IR=3, AWA=5; TOEFL:108, 30, 30, 23, 25

反正也要重新申请，所以准备让他重新考一次了。IR太悲剧了，speaking也悲剧了点

请教大家，这样的背景设计什么样的career goal会比较现实？转行做Consulting/Marketing/Branding是不是具有更多的transferrable merits?毕业后也更容易找到工作？

Hello there,
With a 790, retake the test??? That’s crazy! Obviously it’s not the GMAT that’s the problem. Because the GMAT is awesome!

Now it’s a bit hard for me to say without seeing the application, but my first reaction is that he probably messed up his essays somewhere, and I’d love to see them to figure out what went wrong.

Secondly, if he is STILL on the waitlist it is NOT too late!!! There is still plenty he should be doing to go from waitlist to accept this year!

我觉得CG你可以写的更make sense...比如现在工作遇到了那些问题，觉得mba能够帮助/提升/解决哪方面，念完之后要回国继续做原来的工作或晋升一级blah blah...录了之后做什么那是之后的事情了。。。
为什么不考虑读emba呢？Columbia 对lgbt group也蛮友好的

Update:

Made the compromise with my father so he'll sponsor my partner's mba program and I'll follow his will to apply for a law school.

So at this moment, I can put Standford MSx on the list, which is definitely super expensive, and withdraw from HBS. Hopefully the opening would come to someone from ChaseDream.

现在确实有很多时间想了。more haste less speed. Sometimes old sayings do work.

去年他开始准备太晚了，11月开始，1月交完申请。感觉别的都可以，确实career goal没有太想好。

自我包装不对啊。
恕我直言，如果不知道自己想要什么，为什么要在自己年纪已经34了，然后还要花二年去读一个MBA呢？
