我在MAHATTAN 的sc分册的idiom上学到
CAN用法的几个形式(right代表正确的,suspect为有累赘之嫌但特定情况可选,wrong是错误的)
Right: The manager CAN RUN the plant.
         The plant CAN CAUSE damage.
Suspect: It is POSSIBLE FOR the plant TO CAUSE damage.
           The plant POSSIBLY causes damage.
WRONG:The manager HAS THE CAPABILITY OF RUNNING the plant.
The plant HAS THE POSSIBILITY OF CAUSING damage.

而我做课后练习的时候有一题: Unlike humans and guinea pigs, most mammals HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF SYNTHESIZING Vitamin C from glucose, a simple sugar. 答案是right

求大神解惑,have the capability of doing sth 是否正确替代can do?

看到有帖子回答说capability of doing要看句意,是与生俱来的能力,例句manager管理公司不是与生俱来的能力 ...

不能用与生俱来的能力来区分capability吧,那capability building这个词从何而来。。。而且商业中都惯用capability来描述develop出来的skill

我觉得这应该是属于相对错误,不是绝对错误。
因为have the capability of doing sth其实就等于be capable of doing sth
在gmat语法中简洁性v>adj>n  但简洁性是属于相对错误  不可直接排除 所以如果同时出现两种情况肯定是直接用be capable of doing简洁很多,同理can do就比have the capability of doing sth简洁清晰
如果有正确选项选择了have the capability of doing sth  那肯定是因为其他选项里有不可原谅的绝对错误  已经没有其他更优的选项了  gmat整个语法的标准就是选最优  但最优不一定是绝对正确  所以即使这个结构赘述 也只能选择这个
以上是我的理解。。

并没有查到准确官网回复啊
但是有这么一条

贴一下他给的解释:

I can't imagine you would be faced with this situation on the GMAT. In fact, every example I can recall that involves this idiom splits on "is/are capable of" vs "has/have the ability to", both of which are idiomatically correct.

In every example I can recall from GMAC, the split is on "capable of" (correct) vs "capable to" (incorrect) or on "ability to" (correct) vs "ability of" (incorrect).

Essentially, "capable" uses the preposition "of", and "ability" uses the preposition "to". So I believe both of your examples, and both of the examples in the Strategy Guide, would be correct in terms of the preposition used.

In fact, checking the most recent version of the Strategy Guide, the right and wrong examples in these idioms hinge entirely on the preposition.

But I cannot ever imagine the GMAT using any form of "has" with the "capable" idiom. It's always "The manager IS capable of...", not "The manager HAS the capability of..."
