Does technology make children less creative than in the past?
The technology is advancing at a staggering rate in contemporary society and is transforming the whole way of our life, especially among children. When it comes to the issue whether technology makes children less creative than before, there is considerable diversity of opinions. On personal level, I react adversely to the views mentioned above, technology has apparently assisted our kids to become more creative, First and foremost, what never ceases to enthrall me is that children can get access to scientific or liberal resources which may be the best source of inspiration. In general, children are readily to find the information to satisfy their curiosity. For example, they can watch movies via IPAD screen, read e-books at Google or collect essential data on the Internet. Besides, young children are inclined to accept new concept and absorb knowledge in a casual way. Whether scanning pictures online or going out for exhibition in the art gallery seems beyond doubt. In this sense, technology nowadays, to a great extent, has guaranteed the possibility for children to be more creative. Moreover, technology has equipped children with professional apparatus which exerts a impetus on their imagination. Computer software and application are never as hardy in the past, such as Photoshop for graphic design, Visual Corel for movie scripting, SPSS for analyzing the data, etc… Accordingly, it is obvious that technology has offered our children an effective tool for improving the creativity, together with a broad imagination, Actually, technology itself is a market place where creative ideas are encouraged and appreciated. Steve Jobs earns millions of dollars for his unparallel achievement and Bill Gates gained his reputation for the invention of the Internet. Therefore, technology has provided children with the internal motivation and external stimulus to develop their creativity, However, there’s no denying the fact that technology might make children lazier because everything is already available. A recent case concerns my cousin, Tom, who is deeply addicted to cyber games, staring at the screen in front of the PC for a single day! As a result, he suffers a lot for his poor eyesight and low scores, not to mention creativity and imagination. Thus, there is a necessity to keep children away from the temptation of this marvelous technology world. In a nutshell, I still regard children as becoming increasingly creative in technology development, regardless of its minor side effect. As long as we keep a balanced mood on children enjoying the product of technology, they are bound to contribute more to innovation. |
