Along with increasingly fierce competition among producer,
the advertisements are penetrating into our life at an unexpectedly rapid speed. When we read a newspaper or turn on a television, it is not surprising to find that our mass media are filled with advertisements. Also, we can see various advertisements when walking in the streets. This phenomenon gives rise to a hot debate on whether advertisements make us buy unnecessary things or improve our life. As far as I am concerned, in general, advertisements today disturb people’s life by offering too much unreliable information.
首段入题,把不同观点及自己观点表明。
First of all, with the vested interest of making profits, companies are inclined to add many exaggerations into their advertisement to deceive the consumers. In order to realize the primary goal of advertisements--selling products, companies are willing to promote their products by all means. A great example can be found in the cosmetic industry. Famous actresses or models are usually invited to show their excellent figures or skins in the advertisements, trying to convince the audience that the products account for their beauties. Many women, dreaming to become beauties, believe in what the advertisements tell them, and thus spend their money without hesitation. However, with our common sense, we can easily conclude that whatever makeup they use, hardly can ordinal people achieve the perfect lookings that appeared in the advertisements. In fact, simple daily care for our skin is enough; those expensive products, in contrast, are not necessary. In the advertisements, cosmetic producers successfully make use of the eager desire of women to improve their appearance.
第一大理由。例证。
In addition, another problem advertisements bring us is that they cultivate a climate of exorbitant consuming, in which fashionable, newly released and nice looking products are pursued by the public. This does harm to our society, especially to children who are not able to decide what goods are useful and necessary. Stationary, for example, are becoming as beautiful as toys these days. Even though there are few chances for children to go to shops, they can see them from advertisements and ask for them from parents. These luxury stationeries of little practical use distract their attention from study and make them compete with each other in consuming these unnecessities, and thus have serious negative impacts on them. .
第2大理由。依然例证+分析。
Admittedly, advertisements do work as a channel for people to get information of goods and services to some extent. By watching some advertisements that does not go too far away from the real situations of the products, consumers can conveniently find products that they are interested in. They can go to shops to see the products in person and make their own decisions. However, this alone is insufficient to the problems of advertisements, for most of the time people, facing the strong inducement offered by advertisements, lack the rationale to examine the products carefully.
留有余地,自己观点相反的“合理”让步。
To sum up, for what I discussed above, although advertising provides us a great wealth of information about the newly–launched products, its positive aspects are trivial compared with the unreliable information that drives people to buy unnecessary things.
