However, Groveton College has successfully reduced student cheating by adopting an honor code, which calls for students to agree not to cheat in their academic endeavors and to notify a faculty member if they suspect that others have cheated. Groveton's honor code replaced a system in which teachers closely monitored students; under that system, teachers reported an average of thirty cases of cheating per year. In the first year the honor code was in place, students reported twenty-one cases of cheating; five years later, this figure had dropped to fourteen. Moreover, in a recent survey, a majority of Groveton students said that they would be less likely to cheat with an honor code in place than without. Thus, all colleges and universities should adopt honor codes similar to Groveton's in order to decrease cheating among students.

Though the author shows us a in a recent report about cheating in college and university, the things we know is just the outcome of the report, which is unclear.Indeed, the cheating is increasing, but this increasing could be caused by a number of reasons.If colleges and universities adopt more students than before, it seems that the cheating, according to the number of the students, is going to rise.Since there are more students, if the ratio of cheating remains, of course there are more cheating.For another reason, the report of more cheating could have some problem.Recently, with the development of technology, cheating is more likely to be observe.For example, you are going to find more cheating if you use video monitor instead of a single teacher working through the classroom.That means not the cheating is increase, but the report of cheating is on the rise.Students' cheating remains to be a problem, but it just that we find more cheating until recently.



Besides, even though the report is convincing, we could never easily regard honor code a wonderful method.This method only be used in Goveton College
, which is a single college and a small sample.We have to ask if the method, which worked well here, could be useful in other colleges and universities, since the condition different from one college to another.For another question, the arguemnt never show us other information about Goventon College.To deal with the problem of cheating, is honor code the single method?Or perhaps Govention College also use other method, but we never know. .Though the report number is reducing, its not equal with the real cheating is actually become less.Perhaps Goveton College just accepts less students, the cheating number could be reducing by this reason.What is more, since the teachers not monitor the students any more, this report could be less convincing, because students could cheat in the exam without worry of the teacher's observation and even help each other to cheat.With these questions unclear, we could never say that honor code is really a great method.
