题目:Workers in the small town of Leeville take fewer sick days than workers in the large city of Masonton, 50 miles away. Moreover, relative to population size, the diagnosis of stress-related illness is proportionally much lower in Leeville than in Masonton. According to the Leeville Chamber of Commerce, these facts can be attributed to the health benefits of the relatively relaxed pace of life in Leeville.

提纲1.没有证明L的生活是relaxed的,可能只是相对M来说而已
2.就算relaxed,工人请的病假可能不是由紧张的生活节奏导致的
3.没有证明ill-related illness由紧张生活节奏导致

作文
The author asserts that relaxed life contributes to healthy lives in Leeville. To support his assertion he cites two facts that compared to Masonton ,Leeville workers take fewer sick days and the proportion of people diagnosed stress-related illness is smaller. However, the argument relies on a series of unsubstantiated assumptions, which render it unconvincing as it stands.

The author makes an assumption that it is the relaxed life pace that influences the health condition of the residents. It is logically flawed because no evidences are provided to guarantee the premise that the life in Leeville is relaxed. It was only life pace in Masonton taken in comparison, but the arguer applies the result to all cities and arbitrarily make assertion about life condition in Leeville while doesn’t show us whether Masonton is a representative city in highly tense life pace. Maybe the life is tense in Leeville, but not as highly as in Masonton. In short, concerned with the uncertainty of real life pace in Leeville, the author cannot rely on it to draw any firm conclusion about the health benefits.

Furthermore, even if the life is really relaxed in Leeville, the facts cited cannot illustrate that to what degree the relaxed life pace influences the health condition of the residents. The author deals another undefended assumption that the reason for the sick days taken by workers in both cities is the same that is different life pace. But the problem is that the two situations possibly are not similar enough to justify the analogical deduction. Maybe Mason is a heavily polluted city so that People are likely to suffer from respiratory diseases.Lacking statistically reliable explanation for sick days, the author cannot convince me that the relatively relaxed life pace would help increase the health condition.

Moreover, even if Masonton residents suffer more stress-related illness, no researches have been taken to figure out the causes of pressure while the author unjustifiably concludes that all stress-related illnesses are caused by the relatively higher life pace. It is entirely possible that the life pace in Masonton is actually relaxed but with different industry organization the residents have more work pressure or mortgage stress. Employment pressure may erupt with the collapse of a large factory. Thus, without ruling out other possible scenarios, the life pace might nevertheless contribute nothing to pressure that people suffer.

What's most important, the author provides no information about the time of the observed facts. When facts are used to make general claims about a particular phenomenon, the facts should have lasted long enough in time to the generation they are used to support. If the facts only stand for a tiny spell of time, temporary phenomenon will invalidate the generalization. For that matter, this argument is not strong enough to establish a correlation between the two cities. As a result, without the evidence that the facts are a long-term phenomenon the author can not justifiably draw any conclusion from these facts.

In sum,the author's deduction is simply not credible, at least based on the facts cited. To convince me that the relaxed life is needed to ensure a healthy life in Leeville, the author must provide clear statistical evidence that in the very long period of time, people in both cities are under the same economic and natural environment condition. To better evaluate the conclusion ,I would need more information about how the different industry organization would affect people's mental state.

感觉这点不是特别好,前半句很好,后半句,其实人家就是要把L和M比。你可以说,这个案例不能推广到普遍性。
