4. PROOFREAD! I love readingessays and as I’m going through, marking typos, nonsensical sentences, grammatical errors, etc. I don’t do this to prove a point other than to see howwell the person reviewed their work before submission. Think about yourapplication and essay this way, you’re trying to put your best foot forward. If you can’t submit a ratherflawless piece of prose, or answer the prompt, then what is the Admissions Committee supposed to think? They’re going to think you’re careless. 尤其对于英语非母语的申请者,重新阅读检查你的拼写, 语法非常重要。 因为这些小细节的失误可能会留给面试官“马马虎虎”的印象。
5. DONOT PLAGIARIZE! While this seemslike a no-brainer in terms of what not to do, I have definitely seen my fairshare of careless copy and pasting from various sources and calling it anessay. Many schools are using outside websites and organizations to assess theplagiarism of each applicant’s documents. In general, there is no faster way to undermine yourintegrity, than by cheating, and this includes plagiarizing! If you do it inthe application process, who is to say you would not do it while in school atour institution. 不要抄袭这是常听到的一句话,但是确实还是有这个现象。
6. WHO ARE YOU? Essays are the most subjectivepart of an application, or at least one of the most subjective. Tell ussomething about you that we can’t gather from anywhere else on yourapplication. The essay portion is a great place for you to boast and tell usabout your personality, thought processes during a situation, etc. The essay is a personal element in the application, rather than just a transcriptor form. Take advantage ofthe essay and providing us with your voice! 其实所有申请材料中, essay 是最能体现出你的想法的部分。让这个部分体现出你的性格, 你的思路, 你的未来规划。
7. WATCH YOUR JARGON Don’t try and talk over theadmissions reader/evaluator. While having in-depth knowledge and rhetoric aboutsomething may seem impressive, it’s not impressive to talk over the Committeeto the point where they do not know what you're talking about.
Think of it thisway, we as admissions folk at a business school, do not expect you to have thebusiness jargon at the time of your application. This is one reason why you’reapplying to graduate business school. In the same vein, we, as admissions, do notalways have a background in your field of work, and thus you should not expectus to have the knowledge-base to follow along lofty and high-caliber jargonintended to impress us. We are more impressed with essay language that conveysconcepts to us in ways that we can understand easily. 一些专业术语可以避免就避免。
