Currently, there is a "bizarre" phenomenon among Chinese when dealing with daily relationship with others, stranger or acquaintance, which acknowledged as trying best to avoid conflicts, on other hand, not willing to be involved into collisions. Actually, staying away from disputes is not strange at all, even perfectly understandable, however, what they suffered in doing so is absolutely miserable
and why act this is confusing, too. For instance, instead of inhaling unpleasant smoke, one is undoubtedly able to ask the smoker not to go on,but the fact is that he often refuses to end his sufferings. And the reason leads to this is sheerly simple and clear——not wanting to cause conflicts.
It may be a common problem among undergraduates that they often conceal their complaints though attributing their insomnia or disconsentration to their roommates' making noises, such as playing computer games or chatting loudly. In such circumstance, the suffering individual tries many limens stopping the noises but prevented by a voice from deep heart——avoiding conflicts. As a matter of fact, his advice of being quiet, in most occasions, may be effective and not damage the friendship between him and the disturber at all, perhaps, it is merely he, himself, that overestimate the outcome.
Being Chinese, we have sticked to the "Golden Rules", which means one's standpoint being neutral all the time, in order to survive better in the complicated society. From my shallow perspective, it is the "Golden Rules", the very poison, that has intoxicated us for more than five thousand years and its devastating influence is still on. There used to raise similar questions——why, in our society, is the amount of heroes so small? No sooner had I inquired myself with it than I couldn't hold my composure any more and raised another one——why people don't want to be involved in conflicts even though they have already in and harmed ,either? Transparently, it is tradition, culture or, frankly speaking, our Chinese nature constrain individuals' minds and action rather than those surface reasons. In addition, the so-called "Great Cultural Revolution" is most responsible for the current condition——confined thoughts. The democracy, just stepping into China and without rooting in everyone's mind, was eliminated by the so-called non-property class.Furthermore, the "July 4th" movement drastically scrape the rarely remaining democracy, at last. Have experienced these two great disasters, Chinese people dare not speak what they want to speak, do what they are supposed to do, considering that silence is a rational way to protect themselves, even there is no danger at all.
So, the complicated reasons entangled together make the problem seems no appropriate answer, yet.I, myself, am not able to reply the question, once I asked myself, of why no fights to being saw on campus, which may be crazy at first sight but worth considering when looked into, either. Now, I suppose I have already found out why it cannot be answered.
