topic :some people choose friends who are different from them, others choose friends who are similar to them.compare the adavantages and disadvantages of these two way of choosing friends.
There are two different approaches in selecting friends: choosing friends who are similar to us or making friends with whom totally different from us. While having friends who is like us might be easy to get along with, having a pool of more diversified friends is more beneficial. It is plain to see why people tend to have friends similar to them in either experiences or social backgrounds. Similar friends can easily relate to one another. For example, it much easier for me to consult a friend who is also on a tight budget due to the ever increasing tuition about the ways to make extra bucks than to a friend who always have money to burn. Even I disgrace myself by mentioning the personal financial problems to my affluent friend he is unlikely to give me some practical suggestions since he has never had this kind of problem before.
Admittedly, having friends who just like us is great since these friends can understand our situations without much effort when we need advice. Having friends who is dislike us is even more advantageous. First, having friends whose interests are divergent can enable us to savor the various flavors of life. For instance, I was an indoor girl and I never knew I would love play basketball someday before I met my friend jack who was a basketball genius. It was under jack the influence I started to play basketball. Now I am the captain of the women’s basketball team in my university. In addition, having a number of friends whose education and social background differs is a huge asset in our career path. My father is a case in point; he has always been the number one car dealer in his firm. You may wonder what his secret is. He once told me that he could never make it were it not for his friends who are in all kinds of trade. No matter how the macro economy is there are friends in certain trades who are profitable enough to become my father’s potential customers. In sum, we may feel easy and comfortable when friends who are like us are around. Personally, I’d like to broaden my friends circle by including more friends who are different from me since they can enrich my life and be of great use in my career path |
