OG verbal 第二版 70题旧题新问，关于fivefold的用法

各位NN，这道题已经有讨论帖详细的说明了关于AB选项中 greater/more的问题， DE选项中，with短语错误的修饰了extinction的问题，than比较的对象是now和when的问题。
但是有关于fivefold的用法有什么问题吗。
OG答案里C/D 的解释都有：Fivefold the numbers they had is awkward and nonstandard and implies that there are now more numbers , rather than more gyrfalcons. 我不能理解，NN们能就fivefold的用法讲一下吗？？

fivefold 在GMAT中多用为形容词 1）a threefold
increase in revenue，还有numbers 比较用greater 不用 more 这都算是 idiom MM中有
