   答案是E，没问题

   我想问，选项C，D中的 required /have required 和will gain 单纯从时态上可以这样并列吗？？
   是不是一定要现在时和现在时并列？？

倒不一定要现在时和现在时并列，但这里明显不合适。

此题中有个疑问
如果在e选项中加出do合适吗？个人感觉不太合适，因为前面有两个动词（require和gain）。助动词do是否可以指代两个动词呢？

the answer:E。
这里的do代替taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide？有点晕了，do可以指代这么多东西么？虽然我也选了e，但总觉得do指代有点不清，难道不会被误认为指代respire么？
do的指代规则到底是怎么样的？

使用do 是用来指代刚刚提过的动作，以避免重复，（它似乎没有象it一样的规则），不过括号
里面的是我自己说的，准确性还有待考证。
此句中的句意讲的是如何呼吸的整个动作
或者是不是也可以理解如果是指代respire就和和breathe重复了

Just discussed the problem with an American, and she said 无论than前面有多少个Verb, 美人都不习惯补出 do, 习惯用法不要do.至少在日常用语中.

Manhattan 上讲，"You can also omit units, verbs and even whole clauses from the second term,as long as there is no ambiguilty.也就是说，能否省略的标准很简单，省略之后，不会产生歧义，便可以省略。
在本句中。 I am taller than you (are),省略之后，也只能读出一个含义，那就是我比你高。

而在： I eat apple faster than you （do)这个结构中,若是省略助动词do，就有我吃苹果比吃你快的嫌疑。
因此最好就不要省略do .
