1. The CV is a springboard for conversation. It’s got to work like an advertisement thatcatches your attention in 10-20 seconds max. If you catch their attention initially, in a competitivesituation with lots of CV’s to go through, you may have 90 seconds of furtherreview before they move on to the next one. Be bold, be attractive, be concise.
2. Sell yourself as best as possible. Think how journalists slant a story. Describe yourself in the bestpossible light, using the best possible angle, but don’t lie. It will catchup with you!
3. Proper English is a must! That means correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. It’s about attention to detail. When we have nothing else to judge you on, the effort you make in having a perfectlypolished CV is what counts.
4. Aesthetics are everything! Choose a nice font (or two – no more, or it looks too busy!), avisible font size, between 12 and 14, comfortable spacing, respect margins, anddon’t be afraid of empty space! Think an Apple ad. A simple logo on a vast blank page sends a powerful message. Margins are necessary for our thumbs to beable to hold the page without covering the text as we read. Our eyes have adapted to certain standard margins. Without them, the reader will feel claustrophobic reading your CV. Again, the right balance of empty space is your friend.
