关于因果关系的问题求教：so 与and so的区别

比如这两句话：
He is smart and so he gets the first prize.
He is smart, so he gets the first prize.
我记得ron说过and so这种表达也是可以的，那么这两种因果关系的表达方式有什么区别吗？

另：
he worked out the most difficult problems, thus getting the first prize.
he worked out the most difficult problems, thus he got the first prize.
这两者所表达的因果关系有区别吗？

Thus是副词，副词不能连接分句，需要加入连词，比如and. 所以“, thus he got..." 应该改为 ", and thus he got
