不过还是比较难以接受，毕竟两个主语有非常明显的嫌疑。
相比之下，倒是觉得B选项是相对正确的。

B is fatally wrong(in this choice A system is the subject)

A system cannot extend

only the highway can

let us split the five opinion:

(1) A/B "Was the Incan highway"
用主谓结构表达，从meaning有问题，the greatest road system was the Incan highway ....
我们日常说 the in can highway was the greatest road system.... 对吗？
(3)C/D/E "the Incan highway,"
用了同位语（noun modifer）表达，同位语补充说明主语"the Incna highway“
The greatest road system built in the Americas prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbus , the Incan highway was ....

LZ 可以这么去记，如果作者一个NOUN1, NOUN2 说的是一个东西，但是从不同方面去说，很大机会用在用同位语表达，　毕竟 ”to be “比较soft．我们可以eliminate it. 即("noun1 , noun2" better than ” noun1 is/was noun2").

请问一下版主，我觉得 Incan highway就是一个road system，说到底他们是指同一个东西啊，为什么road system就不能extend了呢？
这里需要怎么理解？
