请教OG12 16题，关于逗号+that

the correct answer is B.

选项C和E都使用了，that, og的解释并没有说这么用语法不对，请高人指点如何理解这种结构？
我的疑问是如果intensifying expectations that personal spending in the July-September quarter整个作文插入语去掉，原句就变成了 Retail sales rose 0.8 of 1 percent in August, (修饰语), that it more than doubled rate in spending for quarter.
但是怎么想这句话都不对阿，that和it指代的东西理不清楚
如果把intensifying expectations that personal spending in the July-September quarter), that it more than doubled rate in spending for quarter.连起来看，首先：逗号+that可以不修饰主语，而修饰状语吗？其次如果that指代的是前面整个句话的话，that的谓语在哪呢？显然double是it的谓语阿。
按og的解释it指spending的话，那that修饰的肯定是intensifying..这个句子了，求高人解惑！！

逗号+that修饰逗号前面的内容，可以认为是错的。可以用which干嘛用that。但是如果为主语(总之就是that 要修饰的)，同位语之类，that 是可以接受的当然具体到这导体由于逻辑意思不对，所以不选，，that形式。
但这个结构：n，，that是可以的
还有一点，that是不可以指代前句的。具体参看老perp的解释，因为我比较弱一些。。。想说说不出来。。

我做这题，首先看到expectation，一般对于抽象名词，that引导从句比较有效（不绝对）。再看a b，比较的那两个数值都表明了是rise（和名词growth）不会有什么误会，that of 就有些多余
intensifying expectations would什么可以接受但a没有谓语了。而且double的词性很多（除了连词）double即可

这是OG的解释，announcing the topic personal spending，表明that it more than**就是修饰前面的intensifying的吧？
现在再看这题，按OG的思路来不看前面的主语的话，C选项就变成了intensifying expectations of sth, that it doubled. 也许可以这样解释，本来应该是intensifying expectations of sth adj that doubled，因为这里的adj是in quarter，直接接that有歧义，所以就用逗号隔开，that单独引导一个句子继续修饰sth

谢谢楼上的回答，我也不理解为什么这里的that不是修饰sales rose。。。还请牛牛们解惑！

D选项OG说没有技术性错误，只是没有B好。把D带入：

Retail sales rose 0.8 of 1 percent in August, intensifying expectations of personal spending in the July-September quarter more than doubling that of the 1.4 percent growth rate in personal spending for the previous quarter.

简化后，成为：retail sales rose 0.8 of 1 percent, intensifying expectations of personal spending doubling that of the 1.4% growth rate.
这里的that指代的是什么？？

我觉得大家都一直在讨论修饰，指代的问题，可是句子的结构清晰，意思简洁是GMAC最看重的，所以Retail sales rose 0.8 of 1 percent in August是现象描述，intensifying以分词的形式作前面现象伴随的结果，这样的句子结构是最清晰的，比后面的选项中的各种复杂的指代要清晰很多，所以B应该是最好的

上课笔记上这里有个重要考点：抽象无内容名词后接that引导的名词性从句即同位语从句为<优选>.
