E是正确选项，但是最后那个render harmless, the chemical irritant看不懂。看了前人的解释，说还原应该是or render the chemical irritant harmless，但是为什么原句可以把宾语放在后面，而且还用逗号隔开，英语里面有这个用法么？感觉没有看到过呀
难道是我语法太差，好久没用过的原因么

有没有人可以赐教~

用代词可能会有指代歧义，而且不管怎么用代词都比GMAC的写法要多一个单词吧？
我的理解是作者这么做的目的是为了强调“动作”本身，to metabolize, or render harmless, 把动词放在一起。

我之前发现好几个GMAC的逗号用的特别好，等我考完了写个GMAC标点符号专辑。GMAC对标点的使用就一个原则：能省就省，但改加一定加。
此题就是一例：
metabolize和render都是及物动词，此题中宾语是the chemical irritant
作者的意思是：enzymes that are the organism's attempt to metabolize the chemical irritant or render the chemical irritant harmless.
现在发现宾语有重复，简化：
enzymes that are the organism's attempt to metabolize or render the chemical irritant harmless 。逻辑意思明显改变：本来就是metabolize the chemical irritant，现在变成metabolize the chemical irritant harmless，本来没说有没有害。
加一个逗号，：attempt to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant等于明确的提示你metabolize的宾语是the chemical irritant，而 render harmless the chemical irritant明显是错误的，因为 the 不可能在harmless后面，这样harmless一定是做宾补的，也就是render the chemical irritant harmless。
这个逗号用的必须，真妙！

enzymes are the organism's trying to metabolize, or (to) render harmless, the chemical irritant（酶是生物体尝试分解化学物质的一种结果...大概是这样的一个意思）

这种情况下难道用这个不是更简单明了么：enzymes that are the organism's attempt to metabolize the chemical irritant or render it harmless
感觉比原答案读起来舒服多了啊
原来答案那种把宾语单独拿出来的用法真心没有见过，有什么别的例子证明这种用法是正确的么？我就是觉得读起来都不通。。
