Nobody knows exactly how many languages there are in the world, partly because of the difficulty of  distinguishing between a  language and the  sublanguages or dialects within it, but those who have tried to count typically  have found about five thousand.

(A) and the sublanguages or dialects  within it, but those  who have tried to count typically have found
(B) and the  sublanguages or dialects within them, with  those who have tried counting typically finding
(C) and  the sublanguages or dialects within it, but  those who have tried counting it typically  find
(D) or the  sublanguages or dialects within them, but those  who tried to count them  typically found
(E) or the  sublanguages or dialects within them, with those who have tried to count typically finding

首先，them指代不对，排除了B D E
所以剩下 A C， C为什么错？
疑惑点1：those who这种用法按照曼哈顿来说，算是裸奔，应该是错的吧？
疑惑点2：C的错误点：count it,应为count them 这个似乎也可以理解了。
            但是 try to do 和try doing是否为考点？在这里需要辨析么？
            若C中，改成counting them，是否C也是correct choice?

应该看时态吧，句意能推断出find应该是现在完成时啊，因为是已经发现。

do not use that or those in place of nouns（unless you modify that or those）those 后面有those 修饰，不算裸奔。

firstly, "those" here is adjective - according to Manhattan SC, you can use "this that these those" as adjectives to modify nouns.

second, I agree with OG13 explanation. You can simply the sentence to be - Nobody knows how many languageS there are in the word, ..., but those who try to count them (world languageS) found that ...

根据Manhattan SC, this/that/those/these有两种用法，一是adj.,eg: these materials ...
另一种用法是indicate New Copy that must be modified., eg: The money spend by her parents is more than that spent by her children.
这里的those应该是第二种用法。

首先，前文有it，指代a language,后文的counting it中，it必须和前文的it指代一致，所以counting a language错。
若为them，则逻辑上指代languages，但是就近原则就成了sublanguages or dialects。所以即使换成them也不对。而且find 时态不对，要和have tried平行。
另：to do如果没有绝对性错误都好于（for） doing。除了og中一道例外（为了和provide搭配）
