最终答案是选的E，语法上也能理解，但是，这句话的意思到底是什么。中文上该如何理解呢？

还有，that are the organism's ... 这里的that指代的是什么，既然用的是复数，应该不是指的production而是enzymes了，如果值的是enzymes，那后面又说，enzymes 是the organism's attempt to metabolize....这是啥意思呢？

还有最后的那句，the chemical irritant 是作为从句的宾语吗？ render harmless是否作为一个动词短语呢？

请NN帮忙解释下这个句子的结构！

句子意思：在几乎所有物种的所有组织里，D都能诱导酶的产生。有机体生产酶是有目的的（我个人认为将attempt在这里翻译成目的要好点），其目的是用来代谢（或者是产生无害）化学刺激物。

that指代的enzymes，后面结构是对enzymes的解释

最后的chemical irritant可以理解为宾语，但严格意义上不是。to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant是对attempt起补充说明的作用，而render harmless 和metabolize是平行结构

那么这里enzymes that are organism's attempt to.... 这个就是说，enzymes= organism‘s attempt了？读起来有点怪。

还有最后那个the chemical irritant。如果是做宾语，前面metabolize 和 render harmless 是并列的。metabolize the chemical irritant是说得通的，但是 render harmless the chemical irritant 就说不通了。

个人理解：
that 后面一整个从句修饰production
render及物动词，所以最后一部分正确语序其实是render the camical irritant harmless
应该是为了并列？将它放在最后

其实原文是想说 enzymes are the organism's attempt to metabolize the chemical irritant or the organism's attempt to render the chemical irritant harmless 是么？
唉，把插入语写成这个样子，真是难为他们了。。。

可惜，还是不明白为什么说enzymes are the organism's attempt......
