C为正确答案。唯一的疑问是这里的from which derive both ... and ...这里用derive而不是derives是因为在语法上算倒装结构吗？如果是的话在哪里可以找到依据呢？多谢指点！

肯定是倒装了，应该是介词在句首的倒装用法。不过就算不知道这点也可用排除法推出答案，因为倒装错误在GMAC里也就算是awkward，比代词指代平衡对称等硬伤来说，其只算effective错误，考试的时候千万不可因为倒装而首先排除该选项。

从逻辑上判断，alphabets字母表是从script中起源出来的，因此从句部分derive的宾语应该是script而不是empire或是it，（因为it首先要指代主句主语，也就是empire）。这就决定了从属部分最后紧跟要修饰的名词script，而不是it，这样可以避免引起指代不清的嫌疑，顾A，B两项可以拍出。

E选项不仅啰嗦、平衡对称关系混乱，而且it的指代不清，语法上it指代主句主语empire，但逻辑上它应该指代script，所以排除E

再看C和D，都用了倒装句，倒装句的谓语动词单复数应与倒装部分的主语保持一致，也就是与alphabets一致，应该用derive，排除D

当然，这些说着容易，考场上要用两分钟时间分析出所有线索，还是需要一些功夫的。
