是不是有点弄混了呀！！如果在一个句子中，one of the substances做主语，而tell做它的谓语的话那么就是姐姐所说的要用tells了。可是问题是这里的tell做定语从句的谓语，而定语从句所修饰的却不一定是a of b的中心词吧！！有可能是b，这要看意思，就像这道题定语从句修饰的是substances所以要用tell。

没有改变啊，我的意思是：之所以要确定中心词（a of b）不就是想主谓一致吗？？ 而定语从句中没有规定说这个定语从句一定就是修饰中心词的吧？that也可以修饰b这个名词啊。而且一般为了避免歧义，that都会就近修饰的。但是这也不是绝对，that修饰谁更多的要取决于意思，that这里修饰substances所以谓语当然要用tell！！不对吗？并不是说a of b的原则会因为是不是定于从句而改变。而是这里的a根本就不是定从的主语，b才是。
一般来说在A of B结构的中心词是A,后面定从修饰的是A,但这里的one of noun(pl.)结构是比较特殊的，因为one 是后面复数名词的子集，所以定从的先行词应该是这个复数名词；大家只要记住这个习惯用法就好了！
