题目<br />老师是应该花更多的时间教书还是做研究?<br /><br /><br />Admitted, the University is the pioneer of the science, seeking to improve our life in a favorable way, and the Nobel Prize, which is perceived as the most prestigious honor worldwide, is always rewarded to professors supported by Universities. So, it is understandable that many professors and Universities dedicate a lot time and energy to scientific research. However, can we say that the professors could only focus on scientific research regardless of teaching lessens? Perhaps not; another function of University is teaching, and I think this task is more fundamental and important to student, to the teacher and to the school.<br />To begin with, university teaching, especially gave by famous professors, is significant to every student. There is no denying that most students go to college for education, and it is exactly what a student learnt from the classes increases his or her value and guarantee a bright career. According to a survey conducted by CCTV, a bachelor degree will give the new college graduates competition edge over those only with high school diploma, and the average wage of college graduates is 40% higher. Moreover, so expensive is the tuition that college students can't afford to waste it. Correspondingly, the students prefer to attend more classes because to some extent the classes are the service they buy with tuition.<br />Secondly, teaching is fundamental to every professor. In Chinese character, professor means teacher literally, so to a professor, nothing is more important than teaching. Take Alex for example, who is my college teacher and the most popular professor I have ever seen, he is always placing teaching at the first place when facing multiple task, He always spare no effort to prepare the Powerpoint materials of his class, the well organized scenario in class and recommended reading materials. Through his classes, students could learn the most updated knowledge and fell fulfilled after every class. As a result, he is rewarded the most welcomed teacher every year, and several his students even public papers in national articles with the topics learnt from Alex's class. The key to this success, as Alex mentioned in an interview in college TV, is his believe that teaching should be the priority of a professor.<br />Thirdly, teaching is vital to college. There &nbsp;is a college called Nanjing Audit College, whose comprehensive ranking in China is not high because its theory research leaves much to be desired. Unlike other universities busying combination and expanding, Nanjing Audit College solely offers finance classes and emphasize teaching quality. Consequently, most of the graduates form Nanjing Audit college get offers from big four audit firms, commercial banks and even venture capitals. Those are all really great jobs for new graduates. Just because its reputation in teaching and favorable job placement, more and more high school begin to apply for this college regardless its relatively low ranking.<br />To conclude, a professor should not emphasize the importance of teaching too much, because teaching is the basic function of professor.

题目:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Governments and companies should share their scientific discoveries with others

Have you ever imagined what would happen if the nuclear research discoveries were released to the terrorists? Have you ever heard that Apple and Samsung are suing each other for the exclusive monopoly over high technology patent ? Have you ever known that the patent law is set up to prevent the patent owned by certain company from publication?

If you have not, then you will never understand how important for the governments and companies to keep scientific discoveries secret. Although it is argued by many people that all the scientific discoveries should be disclosed to others for the sake of general benefits of society as a whole. However, I believe this option is specious.

Admittedly, some of the scientific discoveries possessed by the governments and companies should be encouraged to be shared. Scientific information such as global atmospheric change and climate variations and civilian information such as figures about international criminal organizations should be shared to all countries in the world in order to guarantee the well-being of people. In fact, the scientific information exchange are not new. In the past decades, thanks to NASA which has revealed thousands of pictures taken by space probers, people in other countries are able to know more about the universe and the governments become increasingly motivated to explore the space. However, these bright pictures cannot cover the fact that not all the scientific discoveries could be released to public and more often than not, information that a company or government has must be confidential.

In the first place, as for governments , the spread of vital research discoveries held by governments, such as nuclear technology, would put the world in danger place. In many Hollywood movies, such as True Lies and The Dark Knight Raise, we could see that the nuclear weapons controlled by the terrorists would jeopardize the lives of innocent people, while in the real world many hostile countries, such as North Korea and Iran, are trying their best to obtain nuclear technologies. If the nuclear discoveries held by certain governments were disclosed to other hostile parties, I believe the world would be under the nuclear Sword of Damocles and there would be no super agent or Batman to resolve this crisis. So, the best strategy for significant research discoveries held by governments is to keep secret.

Secondly, as for companies, the core discoveries must be protected, otherwise, the future financial interests would suffer from possible loss. This could be clearly seen from the pharmaceutical industry. One typical pharmaceutical producer each year invests huge amount of fund, average 20% of its annual revenue, into Research and Development Department, then after years of theoretical research, animal experience, clinical trails and examination and recognition from Food and Drug Administration, the new medicine would finally be put into market. Moreover, the patent law usually entitles the company exclusive monopoly over the new discoveries for 20 years, during which period the company would make a profit through this exclusive power. Imagine the law was terminated and this virtuous circle would be break, then no company would like to invest in new research and there would be no innovation. So, it is important to protect discoveries from being released to others, and it is this kind of mechanism promotes science innovation and social progress.

In a nutshell, although sometimes scientific discoveries owned by governments or companies should be available to public, in most cases these information should be handled scrupulously because any leakage would lead to unfavorable result.
