B instead a star would have collapsed under its own weight

correct answer

请问这题题干想说什么呀？什么叫Were it。。。？为什么要倒装呢？
这是个虚拟语气吗？为什么instead不要了？？跪求真相··

省略了if，所以倒装
虚拟语气的非真实条件句中若含有“were, had, should等词”，可以省略连词if，并把were等移到句首，构成倒装。
Were he here now, he would tell us what to do.
