Hey everybody, happy new year.
I just stumbled upon this board recently and I feel kinda bit puzzled bout the general attitude towards American schools. Im from Europe and generally speaking we dont see a large advantage of US schools over EU schools or UK schools. I think in general people here would certainly prefer an Oxbridge, HEC, SSE or St Gallen degree over the likes of Vandy, Michigan... And people I know wouldnt rank an MIT over Oxbridge. Perception is, its kind of tied, with a lil advantage even for Oxbridge or LSE. Recruiting wise it does not matter here as McK or GS would recruit from all of those and even some less prestigious ones such as Bocconi in Milan or Copenhagen.
The thing is for me, I couldn't care less. But, I am ethnically Chinese (grew up in Europe though so my language skills are utter crap) and I really wanna work in Asia for a while, like 2 years or so. Ehm is it like hard to compete with all the American degree holders and will I be treated as a local or rather a foreigner...? And yeah Im just kind of curious how America is getting so hot these days.
Thanks for any insight.
