65。Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion
Recently a problem has been brought into focus and aroused a heated discussion about whether it is proper or not that city destroy those old and historical houses to build modern buildings. Different people hold diverse opinions depending on individual experience and values. As far as I am concerned , I would like to approve that a city should protect its own old and historical houses. My point of view will be supported by presenting the following reasons.
First of all, the most vital reason for my statement lies in that these old but historical houses are of great historic value and thus they are the symbols of this city even the whole country. Take Philadelphia, a noted city in USA as an example. As we all know, Philadelphia was once the capital of United States. Undoubtedly, it is one of the oldest cities in USA and full of old but historical buildings. This city protects these priceless treasure very well. For the government and the people in this city know well that these buildings are the treasure, the symbols and live historical books of their beloved country, such as the Independent Hall and the Bell of Liberty. That is the reason why Philadelphia is famous as a historical city in the world. It is not hard to imagine if the government destroyed those old houses and replaced them with modern skyscrapers, Philadelphia would disappear.
Additionally, those old and historical house can benefit people who maintain them in economy. Just as I said above, because these buildings can reflect and unfold the stories and culture in the past , they can promote the fame of this city . Many visitors would come and tour this typical and distinguished city. As a result, the economy of this area can be stimulated by the industry of tour.
Although there exist many old and historic house that have the negative impact on the beauty of the city, on the whole, most of these buildings are of great historic value and can bring amazing profits to local people. Therefore, as was stated above, it is not difficult to reach the conclusion that government should protect these symbols of human civilization and development but not destroy them.
