Scientists and other researchers should focus their research on areas that are likely to benefit the greatest number of people.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position

It has been known to all that science has always been most significant factor to drive the history forward, and have revolutionized the world from many aspects. It is hardly to imagine how we will be if those breakthroughs do not occur. However, when it comes to which scientific field should be put on priority and funded more, no accord answer is got. Some people may contend that concentrating on fields that could bring about immediate benefits and serve the most is preeminent. In my eyes, however, this suggestion seems to be ideal and irrational.

Admittedly, putting more effort on this kind of field is conducive the whole society and achieve the ultimate goal of science that elevating us and the environment we live in. For example, if medical researches are obtained sufficient emphasis, and governments fund this industry rather than leave it to the private company, it is reasonable to presuppose that those difficult problems can be addressed much easier. With the new pills and treatment methods discovered like how to effective cure cancer, it apparently benefits many people suffering the intolerable pain. Also, provided that a great amount of funds that invest into space exploration can be channeled to more immediate field like ameliorating underground water, our living environment will be promoted, and thus we can enjoy cleaner and safer drinking water, and the arable land won’t confront from the shortage of water. Therefore, researching fields that can benefit most people are of great importance.

Nevertheless, when we select those best fields, a big problem will be appeared, that is which field is more likely to benefit most of people. What standard we should set for this choice. For example, in the past, many people find the law of force hasnot direct benefits for us. It is just a simple principle that only interprets our daily things and can be used in theory. However this discovery by the Newton, who is greatest scientist in 18th century have been the basics for any other physical research and it can be applied in majority of fields like engineering and construction. Without it, the invention of cars which may be regarded as benefit most of people may still stay in the imagination. So this factual situation informs us that it is hard for us to choose which field is promising. Any minor and unnoticeable research may be applied greatly someday.

Furthermore, any science is conducted by people, and the reason for them to research into their chosen field is because of their interest. It’s hardly to consider how a scientist will research into a dreary rather interesting field. After all, research is a hard process our common people, thus anyone without interest and enthusiasm for it is difficult to put up with austerity. Simply put Curie, who is one of great chemists in the history and once win the imminent Noble Prize. She conducts experiments under the condition of radioactivity which is harmful to her health. I believe without devotion to this field, no one, especially woman is willing to work in this situation. Numerous other instances of the same sort might be multiplied indefinitely, but this will suffice to advocate the claim that we cannot force scientist to go about fields that is beneficial to the public but is repulsive for him.

In sum, though some fields may bring us immediate benefits, it is unfair for scientist to be obligatorily devoted to these in which they have little interests, leave alone it’s hard to define which field is most meaningful.

写了差不多10篇文章了,半个小时感觉完全不够啊。。。今天这篇大概45-50分钟,谁能提点建议啊。

putting more effort on this kind of field is conducive, this 最好不要跨段指代吧。
Admittedly, putting more effort on this kind of field is conducive the whole society and achieve the ultimate goal of science that elevating us and the environment we live in.
