twice as many 和twice as many as的区别

最近看错题又做新题，然后发现了gmat里虽然经常考到as ...as...但是有时候as又不是成对出现的，非常疑惑。

In1914 a total of 469,000 cars and trucks were produced in the United States, butin 1929 almost twice the numbers of tucks alone came off the assemblylines.

A the numbers of tucks alone

B that number of trucks alone

C the number of trucks by themselves

D as many trucks themselves

E as many trucks by themselves

这道题要是我刚接触gmat是绝对不会选DE的，因为一直知道做比较的话as是要成对出现的，而且解释里也是因为as many后面没有as所以才归入错误答案，但是最近看了错题还有一些解释，发现twice as many这种用法其实也是对的。

在笔记里我写过这样一段话： as many=a number that is equal to another number.
例句：They say the people of LA speak 12 languages and teach just as many in the schools.
然后说“twice as many” 和“one-quarter as many”经常被用到。
这道题的正确选项是B
我想知道twice as many 和twice as many as有什么不同的？求牛牛们解答~~~~谢谢~~~

这题考比较，D选项 In 1914 a total of 469,000 cars and trucks were produced in the United States, but in 1929 almost twice as many trucks themselves came off the assembly lines.

翻译：1914年汽车和卡车一共生产了469,000辆，而1929年两倍的卡车下了生产线。这儿把比较的逻辑切断了，没说后半句的卡车是不是前面提到的卡车。就算这儿有了as也不行啊，得是twice as many the trucks as才行。

不知道楼主认同不？

我的意思就是说DE后面要出现as many trucks...as这样的用法，所以de因为没有后面的as错。但是GMAT里有一次一个选项直接是as many这样用的。所以我觉得DE这样用也是对的。。。

就先不管后面的卡车是不是前面提到的卡车。主要是想知道twice as many 和twice as many as是不是一样的用法？

我没找到twice as many的例子，楼主能举个例子吗？

找到prep2008 185:
When drive-ins were at the height of their popularity in the late 1950s, some 4,000 existed in the United States, but today there are less than one-quarter that many.
A.there are less than one-quarter that many
B.there are fewer than one-quarter as many
C.there are fewer than one-quarter of that amount
D.the number is less than one-quarter the amount
E.it is less than one-quarter of that amount

OA: B

这里B中的as many表示和之前一样的数字，不同于as many as作为“比较”的用法。

但是要是表示一样多的话，那为什么前面是twice呢？Atwice as many asB,就是A是B的两倍，那么twice as many不就是一样的意思吗？

我也看到这几句话了，但是笔记中只说“twice as many” 和“one-quarter as many”经常被用到，也没有例子。我看着也挺困惑的。不如咱们再一起找找例句吧，要不没法分析。
