以下是两位中国校友的MBA经历分享:
By: Jing “Joy” Hu – 14MBA Senior Consultant at EY My amazing experience at Emory University Goizueta Business School started at day one when I landed in Atlanta. I was greeted in person by an MBA Program Office Director, who also welcomed me with warm introductions, giving me assurance from the starting point of my MBA journey. The liveliness from the classes is beyond expectation. In order to enhance our memorization of the concept of death spiral, our management accounting professor brought in a person dressed in Death costume, which left a deep impression on me and also served as a great example that a seemingly "boring" subject could also be fun and engaging. Courses such as marketing and strategy opened up a new world to me with topics and methodologies that I was not exposed to at my undergraduate study. Also, the well-rounded Finance and Accounting curriculum assisted me to pass CFA and CPA exams efficiently. We had a relatively small class that closely united current students and alumni. No matter when I was a student or after graduation, I always benefited from speaking with the alumni and have gained insightful advice from them. I also took advantage of the excellent career resources from the school. Both my investment banking internship and full-time consulting position are resulted from good use of on-campus resources, which I sincerely appreciate and highly recommend to all incoming and current students. Diversity is also encouraged and embraced at Goizueta. We had chances to introduce and showcase the Chinese culture through various activities, such as the Boarding Camp Show, the annual Goizueta Got Talent Show, and the international potluck. I have been working at EY Advisory Financial Service Office since graduation, and the knowledge I learned from school proved to be very useful. Using soft skills developed from the MBA program, I was also able to start a career in professional photography. Since then, I have won 60 international photography awards and have my works exhibited in five continents. Currently, I serve as jury for two international photo contests and just had my solo photo exhibition in New York.
By: Xiao “Jerry” Meng – 14MBA Business Analytics Manager at Ele.me When I applied for Goizueta, I asked many alumni what they got the most out of the program. Jessica Liu (MBA Class 13’) told me, after taking the program, she was confident in doing any business jobs well at any place of the world. That is, exactly, what I want to pursue from an MBA program. Soon after, I got the offer from Goizueta and started my MBA journey. At Goizueta, I gained solid knowledge and rich experience throughout the program. In Goizueta Marketing Strategy Consultancy (GMSC), my team developed a market entry strategy for a leading American fast food brand. In 3 months, we put much time and effort in building analytics frameworks, conducting surveys, and polishing reports and presentations. Eventually, we took first place in both essay and presentation among 6 peer teams in the class. In Deloitte Overnight Case Competition, my team lost our direction around midnight; however, a bold proposal was raised at 4 AM and was changed to be our final recommendation. Luckily, the judges liked our proposal and awarded us 3rd place in the competition. Challenges like these built up my two-year MBA and reshaped my understanding of leadership, teamwork and problem solving. After graduation, I joined the Corporate Development Program at Liberty Mutual. In two years, I conducted four successful internal consultancy projects in various divisions. Thanks to Professor Patrick Noonan and Professor Reshma Shah, I could leverage what I had learnt from Management Practice and GMSC to solve the real world problems. In 2016, when I decided to change my career to the internet industry, I called Professor Charles Goetz for help. He shared his insights with me and helped me make my decision to join my current employer, Ele.me. Every day, there are more than 20 million food orders made online in China, and my employer contributes about 50% of them. As a business analytics manager at Ele.me, I manage a team of 16 to improve operational efficiency and customer experience via data mining and advanced analytics. In 2017, I won the Ele.me Corporate Innovation Award. Looking back, I am particularly fortunate to have chosen Goizueta. Goizueta provided me with not only business knowledge, but also the courage to take challenges. Thanks to Goizueta, now I could say that, I am confident in doing any business job well at any place of the world. |
