Agree or disagree, in order to succeed, you should be more like others than be different from everyone else.
It is generally acknowledged that, to success, we need to learn from others actively, regards to methods, experience, and knowledge. However, when it comes to have own distinguishing feature, reflecting your own horizon and characteristics, things seem to be put into a dilemma that which one is more pivotal. Some people tend to live under the illusion that keeping pace with others contributes more to one’s success. Obviously, they seem to fail to take into account the basic fact that only have own distinct eyesight can we stand from the crown and remain invisible.
To begin with, there is no denying that distinct from others contributes to broaden our horizon, to make further innovation, to challenge conventional perspectives. Actually, the very difference gives us competitive edge by propelling us to be not trapped in old methods, giving us more promotion opportunities. Take my uncle, a programmer in a computer company, for example. His major works focus on developing mobile games, which require new ideas to cater clients demand rather than only some obsolete products. My uncle has a principle that would rather have no new products that just repeat others’. As a result, under his lead, his company makes huge success and my uncle become a regional manager. Assume that if he does not tend to be distinguished, he can he enjoys life success and more importantly, how can a technology continuously make progress.
Besides the direct benefit given by distinct from others, difference propels us never to be satisfied with the present achievement. On the other hand, always imitating others is merely narrow one’s capacity. No one can deny the fact that modeling oneself on others, in the long run, tends to make us lose enterprise. For instance, my litter brother, a high school student, he always compare himself with those who do not love learning. One of his assertions is that I just do something like others so there is nothing wrong. Namely, in a bad environment, imitating others just erosions one’s creativity. Moreover, experts in increasing number are beginning to believe that our whole society should cultivate a sense of distinguishing not imitating, which directly related to the whole societies’ progress. According to a recent survey, conducted by Baking University, shows that 84.3% of the respondents, who are the acknowledged successful persons in commercial and political fields, maintain that difference provide the power to make progress.
I often wonder why some people hold that success based on more liking others. Most of their consideration based on the crucial opinion that our predecessor and peer have built models for us so that we can refer their experience and have a short cut. However, this concern is conducive; the most things we should comprehend is that a person who only imitate others cannot stand out and make huge success because others’ experience never truly belongs to you if do not have experience by ourselves.
In conclusion, in a plural society, not only does difference exert profound impacts on our personal capability but also let us make efforts to make innovation. Although be liking others contributes our success as well whereas it tend to limit oneself more. Consequently, we can safely draw the conclusion that different from others is more pivotal. |
