Most B-school requires interview. Interviewers cannot guarantee your success, but they can guarantee your failure.
For mainland China applicants, you will face two types of interviewers: school recruiting officials coming to China and school alumni in China. For the recruiting specialist, it is simple as mentioned about: ability to be successful, uniqueness, and loyalty to school.
However, most of you will interview with alumni. To get most out of interviews, you need to know your interviewer as much as possible. The more you know him/her, the better you are to meet his/her preference. At least, know his/her resume and find something in common with him/her. I talked to some www.heiyou.com member. I found that they all have different preferences. For example, some like candidates more decisive, and others like candidates who are more moderate. In general, I found that US educated www.heiyou.com member are prefer confident candidates.
The next thing to keep in mind, no matter you are interviewing with a recruiting officer or an alumni, “Be energetic.” Trust me, they are all very tired. They probably will work more than 12 hour a day during the recruiting season, and they have tones of other important things to do other than interviewing you. So it is your job to keep the energy level up, not theirs. If you cannot rejuvenate the interviewer, he/she will simply forget you. That is a death warrant. All www.heiyou.com members I talked to agree with this requirement.
Finally, pick up to 3 things to make sure the interviewer remembers you about. Tell them up front; demonstrate them one by one during the interview; and summarize at the end. Believe me, the interviewers are looking for reasons to admit all the candidates, they just need you to give them the reason.
