Title: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In order to attract good students, a university should spend a lot of money funding social activities. I agree with this. There is no way around the fact that social activities are playing a more and more important role in the university. As a result, social activities are essential considerations for good students when choosing a school. Thus, funding social activities is necessary. We tend to refer to the high quality of the course in tradition sense when evaluating a university. However, what is ignored by us is that it’s common to see that a job taken by a graduate isn’t related to his or her major. In other word, students are supposed to develop holistically by taking part in all kinds of activities instead of only studying courses arranged by universities. If a university increases the investment in social activities, it provides more chances for students to learn from outside the class. They may make more friends and develop better social skills. Besides, due to the intensity of study, students are suffering from so much stress so that it’s necessary for them to be involved in social activities to relax themselves. It’s a stereotype that good and hard-working students don’t need entertainment. For example, an excellent student who studied at Tsinghua University, committed suicide because of heavy pressure from schoolwork. Social activities may not cost a lot but it’s meaningful to some students to help them relaxed and do better in course work. In summary, it’s obvious that current education should take the whole life skills--logical thinking, analysis and creative problems solving into account. We should not be denying newer generations of students the benefits of such activities. That’s why I think a university should spend much money on social activities.
