2011 2.12In the busy and crowded world, we should not expect people to be polite to others.
Do you think it is normal to be rude to strangers? Do you think it is not necessary to say sorry when you bring some inconvenience to others? Do you think it is natural for your parents to raise you up and you don’t need to be grateful? Different people have distinct views on those questions. Some people may answer these questions with “yes”. In my opinion, however, we should be polite to others ranging from strangers to our family members and relatives.
Being polite to strangers makes us feel happy and it may also bring us unpredictable surprises. With the increasing pace of life, people feel much busier than before, which often makes us feel tension. If we are always polite to others when we split their milk on occasion or when we meet our acquaintance, the chance of causing a quarrel or fight is relatively low and life will be not so heavy. I have heard about a story about a polite young man who works in a shop. He is always polite to everyone and once time there was an old woman came to his shop to shelter herself because of the hurry and heavy rain outside. The young man knew this old woman’s purpose and provided her a chair. Before leaving the shop, the old woman jotted down his phone number. After about a week, a big surprise came to this young man, he became a manager of a steel company as that old woman is Andrew Carnage’s mother.
What’s more, it is also essential to be polite to our parents and relatives due to this action could deepen bonds among us. Take my experience for example, it is common for me to connect my parents at least one time every week. It helps me, a student studying away from my hometown and family members, realize what recent news our family members have. When I have troubles not only on study but on my personal life, I always call to my dad for advices. And when every festival comes, I call my relatives to express my concern and best wishes to them. All these polite connections bond our family tightly and this feeling is always let me feel that I have a tremendous pool full of love that support me to carry on what I am doing.
The last but not least, we should be polite, not only because this quality can bring us smooth relationship and healthy life, but also this quality is one of our traditional culture in China. Confucius has said that from one aspect we can truly realize a person’s quality. Politeness could easily be displayed on trivial things in daily life: a greeting, an apology, a helping action, etc. Only we have done those small things well and have noticed the basic social meaning they contain, could we be accepted and welcomed by people in our country and the whole world.
In sum, from what have been discussed above, I believe that being courteous to strangers, our parents and relatives is a good action which should be insisted on from one generation to another.
