答案是D没问题，我的问题是前辈们在prep中的解释式独立主格夹心修饰了，但是with独立主格表伴随不是只能做状语么，那么就不存在会向前修饰the shuttle and earlier spacecraft的情况了吧？只能伴随后边的will have to那为什么夹心了呢？或者是我对独立主格的理解有偏差了？求解释！！谢谢！！

独立主格，表示伴随，所以必须修饰主谓宾结构，而非主系表结构

但在新prep1-232题中
The Acoma and Hopi are probably the two oldest surviving Pueblo
communities, both dating back at least a thousand years.

both dating
both of which have dated
and each has dated
and each one dating
E. each one of which date

答案是A。
并且解释中说 both dating 独立主格在此表示补充说明，与each型独立主格同一原理。
此句前面部分不是主系表结构么？和prep1-190对独立主格的解释矛盾呀？

我讲几点

1 语法笔记也是中国同学写的有可能存在错误
2 本贴中你举得两例语法比记的解释正确
3 要理解不要死背主系表后面独立主格自然不可能是表示伴随主句都没实意动词怎么伴随自然就是补充说明的作用但是主系表后面不表示伴随并不意味这不能用独立主格结构

with +n +介词不一定就是独立主格结构哦，只有作状语成分时才是；它还可以作定语修饰前面的名词。
这里夹心，既可以修饰前面名词，又可以修饰后面句子，所以歧义了
