选项C为何不可？思路：主语：CELLS，谓语三个动词并列：adhere....., beat.., and adopt....

因为adopt ...exclusive跟前面两个动作adhere和beat in unison表示相反的意思，所以要表达转折的意思，因此C不能用and而要用but，D正确。

先看整个句子的谓语：只有一个is , 证明其后跟着的只是一件事，按照C，那么adhere to, beat in unison, and adopt 则有三个谓语，说的是三件事，与前面is 相背，所以beat 与adopt 只能改为非谓语的形式。

再看beat 与adopt的关系，句子开头指出是a peculiar feature,而且理解句子的意思是：“.......细胞彼此粘连，统一作战（姑且这么翻译），然而又采用各自不同的.....”

因此应用yet。

所以应该用句意去理解，配合未划线部分的提示来做题

原本只有adopt specialized orientations exclusive of one another 是跟adhere to one another 相左,E选项even though they beat in unison and adopt则是说连beat in unison也是adhere相左,与原意不符,仅做参考,再请NN指导!
