在版主对上篇issue的建议上,我重新修改了哈哈,也请版主再帮忙看看,提一提建议。谢谢 The luxuries andconveniences of contemporary life prevent people from developing into trulystrong and independent individuals. Write a response inwhich you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statementand explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing andsupporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement mightor might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape yourposition. Thestatement above holds the belief that the development of truly strong andindependent personalities is heavily influenced or even prevented by theluxuries and conveniences of contemporary life. Although I disagree to some extent,I would say it is true to some degree. Admittedly, the convenience of temporary lifesaves our time, and thus allows us to spend more time and efforts to deal withother things, such as participating in more activities and improving socialskills. Also the luxurious life provides opportunities for more people toapproach the high art, like opera which was only available to the royal familyin the past. This helps people get to a high level of strength andindependence. However, sometimes the luxuries andconveniences of contemporary life make people become lazier and unwilling tolearn. Ironically, nowadays in China, those rich second generation and officiallings enjoy the power and luxurious life their fathers provide for them withoutshame. For example, on October 16th, 2010, a 22-year-old driver, who wasintoxicated, knocked down two girls and tried to speed away. Security guardsintercepted him, but he was very angry and he even warned them, “My father isLi Gang!” Li Gang was the local deputy police chief. Sadly, one of the twogirls died the next day. This case has attracted the whole nations’ attention. Many critics said this young man’s actions showed he was weak, barbaric andlacked of humanity, which came mostly from his powerful and luxurious familybackground. In addition, with the rapid development ofmodernization, technology plays a more and more important role in our dailylife, and thus people are becoming lazier and reluctant to think for themselvesdue to the heavy reliance on technology. Too much reliance on calculators willsurely detriment people’s calculating abilities. Sitting in front of computersall day which makes us easy to believe we no longer need to memorize thingswith such convenient access to the Internet, results the deterioration of thememory to a certain extent. This is not an exaggeration. A study conducted byBetsy Sparrow at Columbia suggests that when faced with difficult questions, people are primed to think about computers and that when people expect to havefuture access to information, they have lower rates of recall of theinformation itself and enhanced recall instead of where to access it. Moreover, we now live in an environment whichis shaped by mass media. We seemingly lose ourselves with such easy access togreat amount of information. For example, the Internet offers us convenience, but on the other hand, so many people, especially children are losingthemselves by so addicted to it. In a word,it’s true that the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life save us timeand provide more chances for us to grow into mature men and women. But at thesame time, they people lazier and reluctant to learn and grow into truly strongand independent personalities. |
