The lecturer talks about the disadvantages about a four-day workweek, and he completely refutes the passage by providing drastically different evidences of company's benefits, economic condition, and the lives of employees.(31)
First, the company would spend more. The passage says the shortened workweek would increase company's profits due to employee's fewer costly work errors and no extra payroll. However, the lecturer talks about the increased cost of training to new employees and medical benefit. Also, the company would own more office space and buy more computers.(55)
Second, the unemployment may not come down. While the passage says more people would be hired because of four-day workweek, the speaker talks about if the employer asks employees to work over time and even fulfill the previous five-day work in just four days, which could make employees more unpleasant. This counters what’s stated in the passage.(57)
Third, although the employees have more time to get involved in their private lives with their family, the lecturer points the fact that four-day workweek might reduce their job abilities preventing the advance in the career. Also, the managers prefer employees who work five-day workweek, so they would miss the chances of promotion(53)
