its numbers（or the birds‘ numbers）虽然是复数，但是表示的还是某群体的数量，还是用greater，larger，smaller修饰，谓语动词是复数，这是number的一个特殊用法吧，prep08里有总结的。但the numbers of +n. 就不行，表达的是n.的一系列数值。
