As people put more and more stress on education, the arrangement curriculum in schools has gain increasing attention. Some people argue that the whole nation should have the utterly same curriculum so that all students can be showed that important knowledge fairly. While this recommendation ignores the great diversity of students, teachers, schools and the local governments, which makes it not prudent and also applicable.
Concerning the characteristics of studying for each student, the same curriculum can do lots of bad effects. As we all know that every student has different way to study and has different best method to achieve the best of them. Take history class for example, some students can have a better understanding by providing images and videos of historical events; others can deepen their memory by representing stories. Only the teacher grasp the best method for most of students in the class, can they make an achievement. Setting the utterly same curriculum totally ignores this kind of difference and doubtl achieve little.
What's more, teachers have different background, knowledge storing and the teaching method. Also in the history classes, some teachers know better about historical important people, while some teachers have a better knowledge in the meaning of certain events. If they have the freedom to choose the relatively important material which they are better at to talk, the efficiency of the class can be improved.
The needs for students across states and cities are also varied. For example, in some regions, the local culture treasures music a lot and students have a stronger need to study music than people in other regions. May be the schools in this area should emphasize the music class, which means schools can enlarge the number of class, employ better music teachers and buy better musical equipment. So concerning the different needs, a national same curriculum is not advised.
Some subjects need relatively larger input in terms of necessary equipment, not all local governments has the ability to provide them. In many cases, the art class needs larger expenditure and for some poor regions, if national required curriculum includes those art classes, this can cause great burden to local governments.
There is no doubt that the elementary education across cities and states has something in common and to regulate the curriculum arrangement is important for a country. But it goes to far to require all of students take the same curriculum and concerning the negative effects the recommendation can bring we discussed above, a country should not strict so tightly to require this.
