To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities.
Cities reflect the prosperity of human civilization and are mirrors of modern society. Major cities especially reveal the characteristics of society for that they are the place where most talents and functions coagulate. A day in a major city offers people abundant experience of a society, but it is not enough to understand wholly the society.
Major cities of course handle the most important resources of countries even of the world. People live in the major cities enjoy the city life, excluding the better security, better transportation, better entertainment and all apparatus that citizens in small cities envy. People can easily understand that why the terminals of foreign visits always locate at the major cities. The citizens look happier and smatter, showing the brilliant aspects of the society. The major cities works as the crux of countries and the frame of countries, while covert the tarnished aspects of countries.
Under the cover of flourishing major cities, most of the worlds are still poor cities. People can read the statistics from the research that the most areas are sill fill with poverty and illness, like the Africa and other developing countries. The people there try their best to live better, without even knowing the cozy life in major cities in some places. Even excepting the most undeveloped countries, the lives in small towns are exactly different from the happiness in major cities. Small town citizens have little opportunities to use the instruments being utilized as daily use in major cities, though they may have viewed and read in TVs and books, such as subway and airplane. They earn their bread for the whole family, dreaming that one day their children could live as comfortable as the people in major cities, while dare not to watch a movie in theatre. Brutal as it, however, it is the true characteristics of the society.
Major cities are the dreams of most people in the world, while the reality is the small towns and poor area that need assistance. It is superficial to investigate the most important characteristics of a society in major cities only, leaving the other places in bereft. Stepping into different kinds of cities and pick up more places to investigate, the comprehension will surely be more realistic.
