The issue involving the benefits of scandals and efforts of reformers and speaker is a complex one, since it needs a careful scrutiny of the severity of the problem as well as each method’s validity and efficiency in various social and political situations. This complexity confuses some people to hastily draw the conclusion that exposure of scandals outweigh the systematic reform carried out by reformers for it’s able to grasp people’s attention and arouse the public’s sentiment in an amazing quick measure.
Admittedly, scandals do reveal serious problems and are beneficial for cultivating a more open judicial supervision mechanism. As public figures, politicians should not only regulate their behavior at work but also should be responsible for maintaining a good reputation of their private lives. However, without media to help supervise their conducts, politicians sometimes neglect their responsibility and do things inappropriate. Epitomes, as Watergate scandal and Bill Clinton’s Zipper-gate can well illustrate the efficiency of scandals’ in standardizing public figures’ behavior. In both of these two famous cases, scandals attract the populace’s attention and solve the problem in a measure of high efficiency.
However, scandals can only act as catalyst rather than decisive force to motivate the progress of the society. Only through the efforts and wits of reformers and speakers can the nation benefit considerably. The chief grounds that I advocate that reformers’ efforts be regarded as the most efficient way to eradicate social and political problems are listed as follow. First off, scandals can only reveal problems which have already taken place and the chief responsibility of scandals is to help the judicial department to make efforts to deal with the problems more promptly. There’s no one can denying the possibility of a similar case using similar techniques to take place in the future after the successful handling process of a corruption case, we can only guarantee the judge probably obtain expertise in handling such case. What’s more, only through a systematic revolution of certain mechanism will we be able to extirpate politicians’ wrong conducts like favoritism and corruption.
Obviously, reform is the decisive force to boost the progress of the society in which democracy and the good of the people are guaranteed. Paragon, as American Civil War, can serves as the best example to illustrate the tremendous benefits brought by a thorough reform. Imagine we are in the mid of 19th century, without the noble crusade against a few discontented domestic foes for the aim to preserve the integrity and democracy of the country, can democracy be realized only through the efforts of several reports on the wretched lives and the dark future of slaves? Only through reform can people realize the great mission to realize the prosperity of the nation.
To sum up, without the exposure of scandals, social and political problems cannot be revealed. Without the systematic reform carried out by reformists, those problems cannot be eradicated and the society cannot progress in a much healthier way. Thereupon, while valuing the advantages brought by scandals, necessary reforms are of equal importance. Scandal can spark the social progress and reforms will fuel the prosperity of the nation.
