Argument 39\174 2011-11-20 9:53-11:53 太烂了,第一次写文章,拖了这么久才搞定一片,求拍!!!!求运气呀!!!!
A recent sales study indicates that consumption of seafood dishes in Bay City restaurants has increased by 30 percent during the past five years. Yet there are no currently operating city restaurants whose specialty is seafood. Moreover, the majority of families in Bay City are two-income families, and a nationwide study has shown that such families eat significantly fewer home-cooked meals than they did a decade ago but at the same time express more concern about healthful eating. Therefore, the new Captain Seafood restaurant that specializes in seafood should be quite popular and profitable.
Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be addressed in order to decide whether the conclusion and the argument on which it is based are reasonable. Be sure to explain how the answers to the questions would help to evaluate the conclusion. _________________________________________________________ In order to convince us that a new specializing in seafood restaurant will have a lot of customers and make a profit, the author shows a series of so-called reasons and evidences. In fact, this argument filled with assumptions is not strong enough to let us believe such a restaurant can have a market in Bay City.
Unfairly assuming the validity and accuracy of the recent sales study, the author attempts to demonstrate that consumption of seafood dishes in Bay City has really increased. However, a study does not mean anything if we do not know what the exact consumption of seafood in the past four years is and what may influence the result of this study. For example, if there were only 10 dishes sold out five years ago and there also existed some fluctuation of seafood consumption in the past four years, so the 30 percent increase, namely 3 dishes increase, is just in normal range. Or even though the consumption of seafood is really larger than that before, maybe some vital information that restaurants have sales promotion including giving coupons, giving a discount and buy one get one free policy is concealed.
Additionally, the author implies that a seafood restaurant will be favored, because a nationwide study indicates that nowadays two-income families, which are major families in Bay City, do not like to cook at home and prefer healthy food. But the nationwide study cannot stand for the local families’ opinion in Bay City. Thus, we have little information about what they like to eat and whether they like to eat out. And even if they prefer eating out and healthy food, they do not necessarily go to eat seafood, let alone go to specializing in seafood restaurant for food. There are many other choices for them, such as vegetables and coarse food grain. Or for some seafood lovers, they also can cook seafood dishes at home since.
While it may be true that people in Bay City like eating seafood dishes in restaurant more and more, they do not have to go to a specializing in seafood restaurant. What’s more, we do not know the consumption of other dishes. Maybe the consumption of seafood dishes makes up a little proportion compared with other food dishes including pork, beef, chicken and vegetables. So a survey about people’s preference for a specializing in seafood restaurant should be made to assure that kind of restaurant can have a market. Meanwhile, the cost of running a restaurant should be considered so as to be quite profitable.
Given that this argument is not so cogent, we need more concrete and detailed evidence to examine the conclusion. If we have really made sure that a specializing in seafood restaurant can be favored and make a profit, it is a nice idea to set up a restaurant that specializes in seafood.
