答案是b，我选的是a, 题干没有抄错吧，我感觉好像应是：the midge,___to,如果是这样的话，B就是同位语了；而A应改为which is a term applied...，当然也比较别扭。如果原题就像楼主所抄那样的话，应是省略which is  的定语从句。
