“The jury,” a collective singular noun, requires a singular verb. Thesentence correctly uses the singular “has been sequestered” to refer to thejury.

(A)CORRECT. This choice correctly uses the singular“has been sequestered” to refer to “jury.”

(B) This choice incorrectly uses the plural“have been sequestered” to refer to the singular “jury.”

(C) This choice correctly uses the singularverb “has been sequestered,” but incorrectly adds the plural pronoun “them” torefer to the singular “jury.”

题目点评：
本题涉及考点：主谓一致，代词

The jury集合名词做单数，可以排除B,D选项。
剩下A,C,E选项中后两项出现了代词them指代the jury，因此出现指代错误。
那么正确选项A很快就出来了。

也许有筒子说动词优先于名词，而且prevent sb from doing是固定搭配。的确在C选项里这个固定搭配用法没错，但是仅仅这方面合适，却不能与整句话match是不足以成为正确选项的哦。

这又是一题涉及集合名词的问题。而回帖中所有做错的筒子都出于此方面原因，因此就在题目点评中说说了。之前悬赏令第一季第8题第11题，曾经有筒子纠结集合名词单复数问题。在此我把链接附上：

而之前innerwarrior找了一道OG12里出现集合名词用复数代词：
GeorgeSand(Aurore Lucile Dupin)was one of the first European writers to consider therural poor legitimate subjects for literature and to portray them with sympathyand respect in her novels.

这是我个人的理解：出现集合名词做主语，在GMAT里面，如果考察主谓一致，几乎都将其视为单数（我木有找到例外），后面出现代词的要用it指代；如果集合名词不处在主谓结构中，即没有相应的谓语动词出现，那后面代词可使用they、them、，their，it。都ok，因为不会与谓语动词单数形式冲突。也就是说我们以“主谓一致”作为优先准则，因为主谓不一致是个绝对性语法错误，而代词指代导致的错误是可以通过用名词替代或者其他方式来避免的。

1、jury是单数，故排除B,D;
2、A. prevent sth
C.prevent sb from doing sth

显然，C的使用是正确的。即防止the jury泄露information给press. A,E的意思有误。

本来选的C，现在觉得应该选A了囧
C中them指代句中唯一复数proceedings，虽然无歧义（但proceedings不能发出leaking这个动作，所以逻辑不对）
prevent XX from doing ，prevent sth 正确

选了C

主谓一致，集体名词jury用单数has
没记住idiom，但是从D选项看，一个选项集各种错误于一身的可能性比较小，前面已经有了主谓和in an attempt to prevent 错误，后面的from doing sth应该是prevent的正确搭配，由此猜的C。。。我招了

1. 集体名词的单复数:
the jury 是集体名词,把集体当作一个整体时，用作单数；; 但是若考虑构成这些集体的各个成员时，看作复数。同类的词有family;　
My family is a large one. 　我家是个大家庭。　　
My family are all workers. 　　我的家人都是工人。

2. prevent sb from doing sth 是习惯表达
有同学说them 指代proceedings 或者无指代是不对的，them指代的就是陪审团全体成员(强调的是成员,所以用复数代词指代)
可以试着把被动变为主动来理解 Sb. sequestered the jury to prevent them from leaking information to the press

在不知道“sequester”是什么意思的情况下，选D

后来第一猜，“sequester”有隔离或暂扣的意思。
第二猜，本题是要考察prevent from doing这个结构
第三猜，jury是集体名词

不知道猜的对不对

b，d，e比较好排除，在a和c比较犹豫，them指代似乎有问题，them只能指代前面的proceedings，而prevent的固定搭配是prevent sb from ，我记得prep有一个关于prevent的题。
