in choice A, 是否是因为时态不对，as a result of the river becoming so heavily polluted, 而应该是as a result of the river being so heavily??? 有没有其它的错误??? Thanks a lot!

这个有点疑问。抛开其他的语法错误，如果把abandon这个动作看作A，pollution这个问题看作B，那么正确选项的逻辑是因为B，所以A。而第一个选项的逻辑是A是B的结果。这不是一回是吗？
