。。。。recession that many had feared " earlier" in the year ,。。。。因为这个修饰RECESSION的时间中有个“EARLIER"表达了更早的时间，即过去的过去。个人理解，供参考。

用排除法，BCE用to avoid表目的，不好，逻辑意思不对。E用了被动语态，意思不对，with ... coming表伴随，也不对。
A是had feared and (had) come，对称结构，清晰。

是有点怪
感觉有点固定搭配的意思。。。
很多时候had expected也这么用
感觉这里had feared也是属于这一类范畴

是不是为了表达过去人们曾经持有的一种态度/意见
因为这种过去的态度/意见在过去是一度存在的
所以就都用来过去完成时。

我也不是很肯定，没把握。期盼大牛来指导一下。

按句意come应该是和avoid平行的。
