（1）making the sloth the earliest known mammal on the Great Antilles Islands中为什么要用on，不用of呢？of表所属，不是还更靠谱吗？
（2）什么时候分词做伴随状语时后面是跟过去分词做伴随状语啊，好像我还没有看到过这样的句子，或者曾经看到也无视了……总之请大家帮帮忙

1.on表示在某地点。

依照你的解释所有的in/on+place 都可以换成of+place了。

2. 句尾的分词结构多数是做伴随表示结果。表结果的伴随分词只能用V+ing。
V+-ed在句尾的句子只能修饰上一句的名词不表结果
