我想问下为什么C项的many of them就是指代不清，而E项的many of them就可以清楚指代people呢？

首先，E选项是many of whom

whom在GMAT官方解释中，很清楚说明只能指代人。向前看，这里的人只有前面的four million people

再看C选项，是many of them
代词指代第一条就是要求指代对象清晰，如果造成歧义，就需要改进
在这里，“them”指代对象并不清晰，前面虽然只有four million people一个复数名词，但是them也可以指代这个句子以外的noun

ls的看看，这个解释。。。

个人浅见，请诸位指点

楼上, 为什么介词短语可以忽略不看? 有OG或者其他语法出处吗? 前面其他地方找不到指代对象, 就是应该找这个介词短语里面的复数对象啊.

我个人认为OG这段解释很困惑, 准备等看完SC重新梳理看有没有例句证明或者证否.

还有一个问题：为什么没有人觉得population 和 people语义重复呢……a population of 4 million people不会很奇怪吗……求问各位！

不奇怪，population of是习惯用语的表达. 查下longman就知道。

Population: the number of people living in a particular area, country etc

Population of
India has a population of more than one billion.

的确有没有people都可以，但是这不是语义重复的问题, 关键是population of这个表达方法。

楼主不觉得C选项读起来不通顺么，前半句无语法错误，后半句but in Laos with a population of only
four million people, many of them如果接在Laos has a land....明显不通

正确的应该是从句要和主句的动词形势一致，主句是has 那从句就得是population 而不是but in Laos with a population
