本题答案选E，，which 是不是只能紧邻要修饰的单词后面，那本题不是要修饰letter吗，此处用which是不是不太合理啊；还有解释中The information about the period when Dickinson’s letters were
written is contained in an adjectival phrase set off by commas这句话是什么意思啊？

GMAT 承认 that 和 which 可以跳跃必要的介词短语，指代前方核心名词（你别跳得太多就行......一般只跳过紧邻的），所以这里根据”题意“ which指代 letter 是没有任何问题的。（*这里友善的提醒一下，当“comma+which”，和结果状语从句“comma+ving”同时出现时也要十分留意“题意”是什么）

那句话的解释应该是指 period 后面的 “beginning .... and ending ，” 这段内容包含了 the information about the period when Dickinson’s letters were written。

给你一段RON的英文解释，"which" can refer to "X+preposition+Y" rather than just Y, it has ALWAYS been the case that X was singular and Y was plural, and the verb had a form that matched X and didn't matched Y。所以楼主你要按照逻辑语意去判定这个which 指代谁。
A 动名词太多，不佳。并且后面有个outnumbering, comma+v-ing这个结构作为主句从属部分，一定要能回答跟主句相关的一些问题，这里的意思是Letters导致了outnumeber这件事发生，显然逻辑不合适。如果作伴随状语，这句话的重点就是在wite over a period begging... and ending上，然而原来是想要把重点放在Outnumber上。
B.outnumeber时态且没有连词
C. and that无平行对象
D. 没有谓语
E.楼主问的是which是不是不合理，但是问题是这个which后面的谓语是were,这非常明确了，which前面的名词里只有letters是复数，按照逻辑意思，一定是指代了letters而不是Dicksons这个人。OG上那句话的意思是说，这句话很明显把 were written放进定语从句里去了，做一个非限定性修饰成分，而真正要强调的动作在outnumber上，所以这个逻辑很合理
