我记得曼哈顿书里说过一句话:you should notice this partten, but you can't fall in love with it.

A。 Heavy commitment by an executive to a course of action这个说法有一种native speaker才能看出来的awkward,如果我把by an executive 先不看的话,是heavy commitment to a course of action. 因为根据意思to a course of action是修饰heavy commitment的,而不是by an executive的。

此外:make it likely to do sth, 这个结构根据RON说表达不对,因为虽然有make it adj to do sth的说法,可是这个it是作为it reference指代后面的to do sth的,(见曼哈顿SC书P231)  ; 但是这里用likely做ADJ来表达就有问题了;likely的表达一般是:be likely to do sth,be likely that svo 所以这种make it likely to do的用法不对

B。 likely用法也错误---这个是错误,error,不是preference/wordy的问题;还有ones用法错应该是them;one是indefinite的指代,them是definite指代。 这个it就特定指代这个某一块;所以这里的ones毫无意义,这里是特定指代,指代when they do appear的那些signals

C. if it has worked well in the past中的it指代有问题,it可以指代a course of action,同时也能够指代:incipient trouble ;不要以it不能指代介词中宾语为理由,认为it应该只能指代a course of action; 在C这个句子中committed to a course of action, 这个to是介词,因为TO+N,这个to是做介词用的,所以a course of action就是宾语了,所以既然两个都是宾语,IT指代就有问题了,属于有多个先行词的错误指代情况

D. makes them likely to 这个them用法错误, 不是idiom的用法,没有听到过make them adj to do sth的说法。此外makes them likely to miss signs of incipient trouble or misinterpreting them when they do appear.

1)human being
4) 被动进行时,sth is being done

Heavy commitment by an executive to a course of action, especially if it has worked well in the past, makes it likely to miss signs of incipient trouble or misinterpret them when they do appear.

A. Heavy commitment by an executive to a course of action, especially if it has worked well in the past, makes it likely to miss signs of incipient trouble or misinterpret them when they do appear.
Heavy commitment by an executive to a course of action,那么那个it是指代什么?根据就近原则是a course of action,解释的通嘛?

B. An executive who is heavily committed to a course of action, especially one that worked well in the past, makes missing signs of incipient trouble or misinterpreting ones likely when they do appear.
An executive makes missing signs of incipient trouble or misinterpreting ones likely when they do appear.,这个意思读不通。

C. An executive who is heavily committed to a course of action is likely to miss or misinterpret signs of incipient troublewhen they do appear, especially if it has worked well in the past.
An executive who is heavily committed to a course of action is likely to miss or misinterpret signs of incipient trouble when they do appear这边还是读的懂得,意思清楚,但是especially if it has worked well in the past,这个it指代谁呢?a course of action?

D. Executives’ being heavily committed to a course of action, especially if it has worked well in the past, makes them likely to miss signs of incipient trouble or misinterpreting them when they do appear.

E. Being heavily committed to a course of action, especially one that has worked well in the past, is likely to make an executive miss signs of incipient trouble or misinterpret them when they do appear
Being heavily committed to a course of action is likely to make an executive miss signs of incipient trouble or misinterpret them when they do appear意思读得要比前面的4个选项都要清楚明了,指代them/they都是指代相同的东西,插入句中的one,其实要比it指代的广泛。

(GWD-9-Q1) A mixture of poems and short fiction, Jean Toomer's Cane has been called one of the three best novels ever written by  a Black American——the others being Richard Wright's Native Son and Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man.

It being X'mas, the goverment office was closed

                              2,进行时的被动语态,如 is being done
