see, in D, it could refer to either japan or us, when it's unclear, it's a pronoun error;
for example: "Tom and sam went to the mall today, because it was his birthday." in this case, from the grammar's perspective, "his" could refer to either tom or sam, and because it is not clear, it is wrong(or not preferred);
"while liking both ice cream and candy, billy can't decide whether he should eat it first." in this case once again, it could refer to both ice cream and candy, i don't know if there's any rules, u just gotta be careful, whenever u see pronous (they, it, them, ect), just ask yourself the question "could this word refer to more than one thing in this sentence?", often at times, u can spot the answer from the choices alone, just gotta be careful
