这个题答案选B 可是我看不明白 that指代什么？but之后的一句话完整主谓宾到底是怎么样的？看了之前很多评论没有解释的很清楚的

还有 twice 只能作为副词使用我印象当中副词只能修饰动词或者形容词那么这个题目的后一句话主谓宾关系到底是怎样的？

CDE肯定错 themselves感觉像他们有了生命自己开出来的意思
而且句意的意思是两倍于之前数目的卡车生产了出来。肯定that "number"
我不懂啥副词不副词的。表倍数可以用twice the ....

楼主这句话可以这样理解，其实twice后面省略了as many as
In 1914 a total of 469,000 cars and trucks were produced in the United States, but in 1929 almost twice (as many as) that number of trucks alone came off the assembly lines.
这样就便于理解了
twice修饰的是came off这个动词，出生产线也就是生产，句子就理解为在1929年，光光卡车的生产量就是原来的两倍
in 1929 almost twice(as many as)that number of trucks alone came off the assembly lines.
看上面，时间状语，定语，主语，后置定语，谓语，宾语

that确实是有指代的，指代的是在美国生产的汽车，但是在这句话中that number of 和the number of是不等同的
如果用the number of 的话后面要加上cars and trucks that were produced in the United States才能够表达原文的意思
the只是一个定冠词，告诉你这个东西是特定的，但是没告诉你到底是特定的什么东西，that就规定了这个到底是哪个东西
不知我的讲解是否清晰？

我对B的理解是这样的，前面说a total of 469000 cars,相当于是a number of cars(而这个number是469000；中心词不是number，而是cars）；
并且twice后面可以+n./what...;
所以和起来，twice that number of cars，这个twice形容的中心词其实是cars，这个从后面came off也能看出来，the number是不能came off的。也就是说，that number of cars指代前面a number of cars。
